PHP Developer – Cape Town (Hybrid) Full Time

Our client is seeking an experienced PHP Developer to take ownership of a well-established software platform that plays a critical role within its Revenue Systems division. This is an exciting opportunity for a developer who enjoys working with mature production systems, gaining deep technical ownership, and driving the ongoing evolution of a platform used by a growing customer base.
The successful candidate will initially focus on knowledge transfer and understanding the existing environment before becoming the internal technical authority responsible for future enhancements, maintenance, and long-term platform development.
Key Responsibilities
• Take ownership of a mature PHP-based software platform
• Participate in structured knowledge transfer from an external development partner
• Maintain, support, and optimise existing production systems
• Develop new features and enhancements aligned with business requirements
• Build and maintain integrations with third-party systems and APIs
• Ensure software reliability, scalability, and performance
• Contribute to architectural decisions and platform improvements
• Collaborate with stakeholders across technical and operational teams
• Support best practices in software development, testing, and deployment

Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field
• 5+ years of commercial PHP development experience
• Strong proficiency in PHP 8.0 or later
• Experience with Laravel and/or Symfony
• Experience maintaining and improving legacy and custom PHP applications
• Strong MySQL and/or PostgreSQL database experience
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
• Knowledge of OAuth2, JWT, API Keys, and secure integration practices
• Experience with Git version control and CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
