Software Engineer Full Time

Our client is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join a specialist engineering team developing innovative traffic monitoring and control solutions. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate software professional who enjoys modernising legacy systems, collaborating with embedded engineers, and delivering reliable software for mission-critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, document and maintain software components throughout the product lifecycle.
• Maintain and enhance an existing Delphi (Object Pascal) codebase while contributing to its migration to modern technologies.
• Develop clean, efficient and well-documented software solutions.
• Work with compiler toolchains, automated build pipelines and testing frameworks.
• Collaborate closely with embedded and hardware engineers to deliver integrated software solutions.
• Participate in system design, software architecture and technical reviews.
• Develop and execute unit, integration and system-level testing.
• Produce technical documentation, specifications and user guides.
• Contribute to software modernisation initiatives and continuous improvement.

Requirements
• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years’ professional software development experience.
• Working knowledge of Delphi (Object Pascal) or the ability to maintain existing Delphi applications.
• Experience with C and/or modern programming languages such as C++, Rust, Python or Go.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design and software engineering principles.
• Experience with version control and software configuration management.
• Knowledge of AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor or Claude will be advantageous.
• Exposure to RTOS, Linux environments and scripting languages will be beneficial.
• Valid South African driver’s licence.
