Electrical Design Engineer – Renewable Energy Full Time

Our client is seeking a motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join their renewable energy team in Cape Town. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer with strong electrical design experience and a passion for delivering high-quality engineering solutions across renewable energy and electrical infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop concept and detailed electrical designs for renewable energy projects
• Design medium-voltage collector systems, including cable and overhead line solutions
• Contribute to IPP substation primary plant design and engineering
• Prepare earthing and lightning protection designs and analyses
• Produce single-line diagrams, schematics, layouts, calculations, and detailed engineering drawings
• Design and analyse MV and LV electrical systems
• Participate in project planning, technical reviews, and multidisciplinary design coordination
• Provide technical support during project execution, installation, testing, and commissioning
• Conduct site investigations and resolve technical design challenges
• Prepare technical specifications and evaluate supplier quotations and technical submissions
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable standards, regulations, client requirements, and quality procedures
• Contribute to design improvements, standardisation, and engineering innovation

Requirements:
• BEng or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in electrical design engineering, preferably within renewable energy
• Experience in distribution, renewable energy, or electrical infrastructure projects
• Professional registration with ECSA, or eligibility for registration, will be advantageous
• Strong knowledge of electrical system design and analysis
• Experience with cable sizing and routing design
• Knowledge of earthing and lightning protection design
• Experience using PLS-CADD and CDEGS, XGSLab, or similar earthing analysis software
• Knowledge of relevant South African electrical standards and regulations
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
• Valid driver’s licence
