We are currently recruiting for an experienced Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) Consultant to join one of our consulting clients – a leading multidisciplinary firm known for its breadth of expertise across Africa and its global reach.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking organisation that places strong emphasis on integrity, collaboration, and delivering impactful solutions. The company is committed to empowering its people, fostering a culture of accountability, and promoting diversity and equity in the workplace.
As part of their strategic growth and commitment to excellence, they are seeking professionals who align with their core values and vision for the future.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and support local and international (Africa) ESDD assignments, including Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) and environmental and social risk reviews for corporate mergers and acquisitions.
• Provide expert input on critical environmental and social (E&S) aspects aligned with international lender standards (e.g. IFC, AfDB, EBRD, EPIV).
• Engage with clients and stakeholders, supporting investment decisions through professional guidance on E&S matters.
• Contribute to business development efforts including proposal writing and client presentations.
• Support the delivery of South African and international ESIAs where needed.
• Conduct permit compliance audits aligned with South African regulatory requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
• Honours degree or higher in a relevant environmental and/or social discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an environmental and/or social specialist, with exposure to the financial sector.
• Proven track record in ESDD and ESIA assignments across Africa.
• Strong working knowledge of international ESG standards and guidelines.
• Project experience in sectors such as power generation, infrastructure, mining, oil & gas, and manufacturing.
• Broad understanding of environmental and social sub-disciplines (e.g. air quality, ecology, OHS, resettlement, labour practices).
• Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa and willingness to travel.
If you’re ready to work on high-impact projects across Africa and bring strategic insight into the environmental and social risks of large-scale infrastructure and development initiatives, we’d love to hear from you.
